Question

Signature, cc and viewing timestamps

I have joined DocuSign on a free trial.  I was particularly pleased that I could send the document to a signatory, cc me.  Forward to a third part and cc me when this is complete. I have set the signing order to do just this. However the timestamp shows the recipient of the signed document viewing it before the time stamp of the signature.  Any advice on what is going wrong.

Hi @TonyWoodward,

Thank you for connecting with the Docusign Community, and for sharing your concern about the signature and viewing timestamps. We understand how important it is for the timestamps to reflect the signing process accurately. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Could you please verify whether the recipient role viewing the signed document is “Receives a copy” and not “Needs to view”? A carbon-copy recipient cannot sign and receives the envelope when it reaches that routing stage and the envelope is completed. You may also share the envelope ID so I can review the signing order.

Could you also confirm whether you are referring to the Date Signed field on the document, with the Viewed event in the Certificate of Completion? They may display different time zones: the Certificate generally uses the sender’s account time zone, while signer-related document information can use the signer’s time zone settings. A near-midnight conversion can make the order appear reversed.

The viewing timestamp may appear earlier than the signature timestamp because the recipient can open and view the document before signing it. However, if the document appears to have been viewed after completion but shows an earlier timestamp, we recommend reviewing the envelope’s Certificate of Completion to verify the record events and timestamps.

I look forward to hearing back from you.
