Do you use headers and footers in your Microsoft Word documents and wonder why they don't appear when creating eSignature templates in Agreement Template Builder (ATB) or expected to live edit them? By default, the builder hides them on the editing canvas to provide a clean, uncluttered workspace while you edit agreement text.

Showing headers and footers directly inside the live edit view allows you to verify document formatting and layout geometry early in the design process, but is for viewing purpose only.

Header/Footer visibility toggles Agreement Template Builder canvas allow you to:

  • Verify company logo and that the correct headers/footers are being utilized, directly in the live editor

  • Optionally switch between First Page, Even Pages, and Other Pages views to inspect complex Word layouts

  • Eliminate unnecessary back-and-forth navigation to the full document preview window
(preview mode can be used to confirm proper placements as well as rendered output i.e. Page X of Y in the footer or todays date etc. on all individual pages)

  • Ensure imported corporate letterheads render properly before sending agreements to signers

Example Use Case

Are you setting up a dynamic NDA or agreement template and need to confirm that your company logo and legal disclaimers appear correctly across all pages?

Instead of exiting to the main preview screen repeatedly, toggle the header and footer views directly on your editing canvas to inspect logo placement and page margins while configuring your fields.

How to View Document Headers and Footers in Agreement Template Builder

Follow these steps inside the Agreement Template Builder editor:

  1. Create a template and upload a .docx document (PDF’s not supported by ATB).

  2. Open your document in Agreement Template Builder and locate the page canvas.

  3. Click the Header or Footer button at the top or bottom of the page area to reveal hidden layout elements.

  4. If your layout elements do not display immediately, select the drop-down menu in the top-left corner of the canvas.
Optionally choose First Page, Even Pages, or Other Pages to display the specific layout settings imported from Microsoft Word.

  5. Review your text, logo placement, and dynamic fields directly on the canvas while editing content.

  6. Click Preview in the top-right toolbar to review the final, multi-page recipient experience.

Tip: To generate new documents from scratch using ATB, simply upload a blank letter head .docx document with headers/footers/logo image, to start drafting a new letter with a corporate letter head.

Here is a quick overview showing exactly where to click to reveal your hidden document headers and logos.

Best practices

  • Format and scale your corporate logo, image sizes, and margin settings in Microsoft Word prior to uploading your document.

  • Upload a blank .docx file containing your corporate letterhead header if you are building an agreement template from scratch.

  • Standardize layout verification across builder teams to prevent uploading duplicate branding assets.

  • Remember that canvas controls are visibility toggles for editing and do not alter your original source file settings.
