If your team spends too much time digging through sent envelopes or compiling manual tracking spreadsheets to see your agreement statuses, you’re not alone.

Here’s how to simplify that part of your eSignature workflow and build a streamlined view of your contracts using Custom Dashboards and Reports.

What This Feature Does (and Why It Matters)

Custom Dashboards and Reports in Docusign Insights let admins and teams create tailored, visual summaries of their eSignature transaction data. By combining individual charts and tables into a central hub, teams can:

  • Save time by eliminating manual report generation and data tracking.
  • Improve visibility with real-time tracking of critical envelope metrics across departments.
  • Enhance decision-making by turning raw agreement volumes and statuses into clear, actionable visual insights.

Example Use Case

The most common situation where this feature helps admins is when leadership needs an instant, at-a-glance breakdown of envelope volume by type (e.g., NDAs, MSAs, SOWs) or an assessment of completion rates to identify bottlenecks in the signing process.

How to Configure or Use This Feature

Follow these steps in the Docusign console to build your visual hub:

  • Step 1: From your Docusign home page, select Insights to open the navigation for Dashboards and Reports on the left.
  • Step 2: Expand the Custom Dashboards dropdown, choose Create, and give your new dashboard a clear name and description (e.g., Agreement Types Overview).
  • Step 3: Select Start from Scratch, then choose +New Report to open an untitled custom report where you can define your agreement data.
  • Step 4: Pick your agreement data set in the Data source section (such as All Agreements), and optionally select + Add filter to narrow the data by specific parameters like envelope value or dates.
  • Step 5: Scroll to Build your report, choose a numeric Measure (such as Count of records), and use Group by to break that metric down by an attribute like Agreement Type.
  • Step 6: In the Visualisation section, choose your layout (like a pie chart), then select Save and name your report to add it as a tile on your dashboard.

Here’s a step-by-step overview of how to build and view your own custom dashboards in real time.

Best Practices

  • Be Descriptive: Always add clear names and descriptions to your dashboards so other team members understand their underlying business purpose.
  • Focus on Numeric Metrics: Keep in mind that custom reports only support numeric values as measures (such as counts of records or total financial values).
  • Optimise Dashboard Space: Remember that you can create up to 100 custom dashboards, and each dashboard can contain up to 20 standard or custom reports, organise them by department or focus area to avoid clutter.
  • Leverage Document Metadata: Group your reports by envelope custom fields or standard categories unique to your organisation's workflow to make the visual insights highly relevant.
